Wonderland: Virtual Adultery and Cyberspace Love (2007)

"Carolyn is a 37 year-old mother of four in the midst of a passionate affair that is tearing her family apart. She's spending up to 18 hours a day with her lover, and her husband is in despair. But the extraordinary thing about this affair is that Carolyn's lover is man she has never met. Because he's not a human being. He's an avatar (or computer generated figure), who exists only in the virtual world of Second Life. And their relationship exists only in cyberspace."

I think they are all really brave to be sharing this...Caroline was dumb to put her husband through this pain. She may not realize it - but she has lost them both.

In Second Life, it is important to remember a few key points:
1. There is a real human being behind every avatar.
2. The chances are that the real human being is older and fatter than the avatar. Probably much older, and much fatter.
3. The chances are that the real human being is not especially attractive.
4. There is a better-than-average chance that the real human being is not the same gender as the avatar. This is especially true if the real human being will not enter voice chat with you.
5. There is a very good chance that if a human being is using an avatar to hit on other avatars or to have virtual intercourse with other avatars, that the human being is creepy and weird, and possibly dangerous.
Be careful out there, people!

That Carolyn basically ran like 3,000 miles away from home to cheat on her spouse. Her husband so should of locked her out of the house and told her to stay away. Gave her visitation rights to the kids but divorced her.
I can not believe her husband was okay with her going to England to meet another guy!!! That is craziness!!!!!!!
Maybe one day her husband will meet a 'real' woman and leave her high & dry like she left him. Let her see how it would feel.
I kinda feel bad for her husband, but at the same time I don't understand why he wouldn't put his foot down bout her running off to the UK. Every marriage has it's tough times and every person wonders if the grass is greener on the other side.
But, hey... guess what... that's what marriage is all about.
Making it through the hard times, sticking by you partner & remaining true to your word. Carolyn obviously is NOT a good-hearted, faithful person. Because remember... she didn't just ditch her husband when she ran off to England... she also left her kids.
And I think she would of stayed in England longer but that guy didn't want her to. You could tell he didn't like her.
My gosh, I'm not even married and I know not to do that to someone you are commited to & have a family with.
I wish I could meet a guy as sweet as Lee.
I'll tell ya this, you wouldn't see me running off to another country if I had a man as good as him.

Jude hit the nail on the head, a perfect take.
However, if the world wasn't full of unthinking sheep these sort of VR scams couldn't take hold. We're a desperately un-evolved species which is at a point in its evolution where we could either self destruct or just scrape through to the next stage and then hopefully develope into something worthwhile.
Lee is a dumbass he should dump the ***.
The other British couple may have met anyhow, they seem suited.
